the median

Today marks the halfway point.
Hard to believe the long-awaited internship is half over, yet at the same time it seems like I've been here for quite awhile.
I have so much more I want to learn, so many ways I want to grow. Only a month left!

Yet in my heart of hearts, I miss the hugs of my family and the long talks with good friends. I miss the smell of the woods and the taste of summer strawberries and blackberries melting in my mouth. I miss hard-crusted bread and sharp cheese. I miss capri salads. I miss my dad's steak and my mother's cooking. I miss grabbing the car keys and taking off anywhere I want to go, by myself, anytime. I miss walking on campus, seeing so many familiar faces. I miss wearing my "normal" clothes. I miss being able to eavesdrop into any conversation around me and I miss the invisibility of blending into a crowd.

When I leave here, I know I will miss the smiles of my brothers and sisters in Him here, the adventure of living in a developing nation, the sweet mangoes and mouthwatering pineapples. I will miss hearing about how God is working in the life of the student who is staying with us. I will miss seeing work of the overseas workers here up-close-and-personal. I will miss the choco-cups and calamansi juice at B's coffee shop. I will miss the sound of rain on a tin roof and the taste of Magic Creams crackers (the chocolate-filled variety, of course!). I will miss hunting for good deals at the two malls here. I will miss hearing about life from an M perspecitve.

Wherever I am, there is always someone or something to miss, whether I am here, in my hometown, or on my university campus. It hurts but it makes me thankful for all the incredible people God has brought into my life and the countless oportunities He has given me to explore and enjoy.

Please keep lifting me up in your prayers as I teach, as I interact with the team and other interns here, and as I have my quiet times with Him. Pray especially for one of my fellow interns who is enduring more than I can imagine, suffering the loss of the lives of two of her friends from back home and now having her mother's health in jeapordy. Also pray for the M's here, that they would know His hope.

Thank you again for reading. Thank you for your emails, facebook messages, and texts. Thank you for your encouragement, for keeping me up-to-date on your lives, for being intentional about staying in mine :), and most vitally for your prayers.

  4. the story with texts:
i can receive them for free from home just like always, but sending texts to the states costs 50 cents a piece. so i read them and then can't reply, which makes me sad! but i absolutely LOVE getting them anyway! :)
